A great session of Hockey this week at Sportability Club. Ray was off so Alan led the warm up which meant some slightly different routines which was good for us all to try out. Then every kid grabbed a hockey stick and tennis ball and started to dribble around the hall. After a while Alan asked that we stick to the lines meaning closer control of the ball. Valentina then led a quick traffic light game - red for stop, green for go and amber being move the ball from side to side. We then played a game of Puppy in the Park with the badminton court lines being the park, the hockey stick being the dog lead and the ball as the puppy. The idea being to walk you dog around the park, and through gates, without the dog escaping from the park. We then split in to pairs for passing across the hall to each other. Then Alan switched it up so that you dribbled the ball to the opposite side of the hall, around the cone before passing back to your partner for them to take their turn. After the break we put all that practice to good use with some small sided games. The group split in to three teams for a round robin competition. The yellow team overcame the blue team in the first game. The green team then took their turn to take on the yellow team and in a closely fought game it was Todd that got the winning goal right at the end to win the game 3-2. The final game saw the blue team back on the pitch to take on the green team and they won the game meaning each team ended with one win each. We finished off with a few games of Boccia with the group splitting in to two teams at either end of the hall. Our Stars of the week this week were Charlotte and Hal - congratulations to you both!
We also welcomed a new member this week - Vikram - we hope you enjoyed yourself and hope you come back again next week! See you all then! We had a great session of Basketball this week at Epping Forest Sportability Club. Ray started the session off with a warm up to wake us all up and get us ready for the session ahead. The kids then grabbed a basketball each to practice their skills. They started off with dribbling with the ball around the hall. First with one hand and then with both hands. They bounced along the lines of the school hall. Then they bounced their balls as high as they could while keeping control and then as low as they could. We then played a traffic lights game with Valentina running the game. If she held up a red cone then you had to stand still with the ball. Yellow and it was stand still and move the ball around your waist and green meant dribble around the hall. We then moved on to some shooting drills followed by some one on one games. This is where the coaches pair up two kids to compete against each other. On the word go they race to the far end of the hall where Ollie is waiting to throw the ball in to play. The object then is to be the first person to dribble the ball down the hall and shoot it in to the basket. Miss and the other person gets a go. After the main break we finished off the session with some games of Benchball, putting all that ball control work in to good practice. Initially there were three teams so we played some round robin games but towards the end of the session a couple of kids had to leave early so we reduced it to two teams. It was a great session and at the end the Star of the Week awards went to Alexander and Ellis. Very well done lads!
See you all again next week! Just a quick update this week as I was not around to take photos and make notes on what was involved in the session but thanks to Cliff we do have a few photos to share. He also informed me that the main part of the session revolved around Rugby including some tag games and a game of Rob the Nest. They also played some benchball. The star of the week awards went to Pranav and Kerrie - well done to you both!
Happy New Year All!! it was good to be back after the Christmas break and good to start to work off some of the chocolates and treats we all ate over the festive period. We started off the session with a warm up led by Ray and Alan before we got stuck in to the Hockey. The kids grabbed a stick and ball and practiced their dribbling before Ollie led a game of Traffic Lights. From there the kids paired up for some passing practice across the hall. Then they had to pass but between two cones for accuracy After a quick drinks break we moved on to dribbling and shooting. After the main break we got stuck in to some small sided games. The group split in to three teams with the yellow team up against the green team to start with. The yellow team came out victorious by 5 goals to 4. Next up it was the blue team taking on the green team. This time the scoreline was more decisive with the blue team triumphing by 15 goals to seven. The last game saw the two winning teams face off with the blues facing the yellows. At the end of a frenetic game it ended all square at 4-4. We finished off the session with a couple of quick games of Boccia.
Our star of the week award winners were Davina and Harry. Well done to both of you. See you all again next week for more fun and games. |
