For our final session before the half term break we made good use of all the Gymnastic equipment in the school hall. Ray led us in a warm up starting outside with some jogging and fast walking before moving back in to the hall for various stretches to get our bodies ready for what was to come. The group then split in to three smaller groups to make use of the various climbing frames and activities we had laid out in the hall. All the kids got stuck in and really seemed to enjoy it, even if some were a bit wary of the heights. After 15 minutes on each station the groups rotated so that they all got a chance to have a turn on each piece of equipment. After the break we switched to playing some parachute games led by Ray and Ollie. These included switching places when called out by running underneath the parachute and trying to keep a ball close to the centre of the parachute. I think the favourite game though was how high they could flick Todd's Buzz Lightyear soft toy in the air! We finished off with some games of Benchball with the group splitting in to two teams - the blues and the yellows. The Blue team won the first game but the yellow's equalled things up by winning the second game. It was down to a deciding game and despite Ollie's one man defensive wall for the blue team it was the yellow's who came out victorious for a come from behind win. It was a fantastic session and at the end there were many candidates worthy of the Star of the Week awards but there can only be two and they went to Kealan and Valentina. Well done to you both!
Have a great half term and we will see you all again on Saturday 2nd March. We had a lovely session this week at Epping Forest Sportability Club based around Cricket and Archery. Ray was not about this week so Alan led a vigorous warm up to get us started. We then split up in to pairs for some throwing and catching. We then did some fielding practice by moving the ball from cone to cone and running around the wickets. Next, we did some fielding with throwing at the stumps. The last skills practice we did was batting practice, hitting off tees down the hall. We had a bit of time before our main break so the group split in two for some games of Champion with Ollie throwing the balls in one group and Alan the other. At the end of the game Hal was in the Champion's spot in Ollie's group and Kerrie in Alan's group. Well done to you both, especially Kerrie who I spotted at the bottom of her group at one point. After the break we put all those skills practice to good use with some games of three tee cricket. The group split in to two teams and Hal's team batted first and amassed forty runs but the group containing Todd and Davina won by scoring 51 runs on their turn. The second game was a lot closer with a score of 38 to 40 but the winners were still Todd's team. We finished off with a couple of games of Benchball which the kids love. At the end of the session our Star of the Week awards went to Liam and Vikram, our newest member, for some great effort throughout the session. See you all again next week for our last session before the half term break. We made the most of the mild weather to get outside and on to the playground this week to play some Football. We started off with a warm up in the hall before heading outside and grabbing a football each to do some dribbling around the playground. Ollie then led a traffic light game before the kids paired up for some dribbling and passing drills The group then moved on to some drills that included dribbling the ball around cones before shooing at a goal, using the side of the foot. After the main break we picked teams for a game with the blue's taking on the yellows. It was a great game with everyone getting involved and the lead changed hands several times. The yellow team were ahead by a couple of goals at one point only for Anand and Kerrie to pull goals back for the blue team to level the scores. In a frenetic final few minutes it was Harry for the yellow team who scored the winning goal. We finished off back inside in the warm for a few games of Boccia ![]() At the end of another great session the Star of the Week awards went to Todd and Swaran for really getting involved and showing some good skills.
