We made the most of the glorious weather today to get outside and play some Rugby in the sunshine. Ray led a light warm up before each child grabbed a rugby ball to practice throwing and catching, in pairs. They then did some over and unders to practice their ball handling. The kids then formed a circle and passed a ball around the circle before then passing across the circle to each other. Alan then laid out some cones so that the kids could do a passing drill in groups of three, passing the ball to each other as they made their way up and down the course. After the break we then played some games of Rob the Nest in the school hall which was fast and frenetic. We then finished off playing some small sided games out on the playground. The rules were the person with the ball cannot move so everyone else in the team should move around for them to pass to. Once the person has passed the ball they moved on up the pitch to receive the ball once more. It was a great session and at the end Coach Alan awarded the Star of the Week awards to Swaran and Pranav - very well done lads!
As it is half term this week we have no club next Saturday but will back raring to go on Saturday 8th June - see you then. We hope you all have an enjoyable half term whether staying at home or going away. Firstly, apologies for no post last week as I had the week off. Apparently the gang had a great session based around Cricket and the Star of the Week award winners were Holly and Sonny, so well done to both of you. The session this week kicked off with a warm up led by Ollie and Alan before the kids grabbed a ball each and began dribbling. They moved around the hall, stuck to the lines on the hall floor, bounced high and low and introduced some ball movements like throwing up and clapping, moving the ball around the body and around the legs. We then did some shooting practice before playing some one on one games. At the main break we wished Anand a Happy Birthday and shared this lovely cake that he brought in. After the break we took it easy for a bit to be able to digest the cake by playing some Archery. We split in to two groups to get as many goes in as possible using the two targets. We finished off with a couple of games of benchball, to use up and remaining energy. The group split in to three teams to play each other. It was a great session overall and at the end Alan awarded the Star of the Week awards to Liam and Kealan for their efforts throughout - well done boys!
See you again next week for another great session of fun and games, our last session before the half term break. The sun was out, we had a great turnout and it was great to see an old member return as we played some great Tennis this week at Sportability Club. We were straight out on to the playground to make the most of the good whether this week and Ray led us all in a warm up to get us going. The kids then grabbed a Tennis racket and ball each to practice things like balancing the ball while on the move; bouncing the ball up and down on the racket as they moved and also bouncing the ball between ground and racket. After a quick break to hydrate we then split in to four small teams for some goes at Build a Burger where the kids have to balance tennis balls between a growing pile of tennis rackets as they make their way up and down the playground. Taking it slow and steady was best and it takes a lot of concentration for it not to collapse, especially once you get past two layers. We then moved on to playing some games of King of the Court. This is a last person standing game where the aim is to return a tennis ball back over the net and in to the court without being caught out. Manage that and you are through to the next round. Get caught or fail to hit the ball back over the net and land it in the court then you join the catching team. Todd won the first two games and was doing well in the last game until a great catch by Pranav got him out. It was Theo who won the last game. We finished off the last 20 minutes with a quick game of Handball with the group splitting in to two teams. It was a great, busy, noisy but fun session and lovely to be out in some glorious sunshine! It was also fantastic to welcome Theo back after a six year absence. He has certainly grown and he seemed to have a great time! Our Stars of the Week this week were Charlotte and Anand who both did really well in the Tennis with hitting, balancing and catching. Well done to you both!
We hope to see you all back next week when hopefully the weather will be good once more. |
