We had a great session on Saturday in Oak View School hall based around the sport of Basketball. We started as usual by having a warm up, led by Ray, consisting of jogging and streching. The kids then grabbed a basketball each and started with some dribbling practice, first with one hand then controlling the ball between hands. That was followed by a traffic lights game, again based around ball control and dribbling. Next up, the coaches set up four sets of cones for the kids to dribble their ball around including bouncing on a spot at the end of the hall before returning to the start. After a quick drinks break we moved on to some shooting practice with one basket at each end of the hall. There was a queue for each basked so as soon as someone had a shot at one basket they joined the queue for the other basket, at the other end. We then followed that with some one on one games. Ray picked out pairs of kids of equal ability to go up against each other. They started at the basket end of the hall and would race to the far end to receive the ball from Ollie. They then had to dribble back and shoot for the basket trying to score first, before the opponent. After the break we split the group in to three teams for some small sided games. Each team got to play each other and there was some good passing and shooting (although one or two preferred to run with the ball up the hall rather than pass!). We finished off the session by slowing the pace down with a few games of Boccia. As usual we started with a few hoops to aim for but with each game the number of hoops was reduced. The last game became an international fixture as Ray suggested that they play for their favourite teams. Valentina chose Germany and the other team becoming England. It ended up being a bit of a one sided game with Germany (the blue team) winning by 9 to 2. Our Star of the Week performers this week were awarded to Charlotte and Liam - well done both! Join us again next week for more fun and games Comments are closed.
