Sports We Play

Come along to Oak View School and check out what sports and activities we have to offer. We meet every term-time Saturday, between 10am and 1pm. Our young people have a wide range of needs and are of varying ages, so there really is something for everyone.

Athletics

A range of activities including running, jumping, javelin-throwing, sprinting and long jump.

Basketball

A 5-a-side team game; we also work on drills which include passing and shooting.

Benchball

A team game where the ball is passed around the court and the ball needs to be caught by the person on the bench. The winning team will have all their players on the bench.

Boccia

A team or individual sport - like bowls - the team that has the boccia balls closest to the jack, wins.

Cricket

A team game, including small-sided games; involves batting, bowling and fielding. Also Kwick Cricket (hit and run).

Dodgeball

A team sport where players try to hit each other with the ball - if you are hit, you are out but if one of your players catches the ball you come back into play.

Football

A team sport including small-sided games; drills include passing, shooting, turning and running with the ball .

Goal Ball

A sport for visually impaired participants although blind folds can be used for sighted players. The game is played with a ball with a bell in and the idea is to roll the ball towards the opposition's goal to score.

Handball

A team sport where you throw and catch to your team. Goals are scored by throwing the ball into the goal.

Hockey

A game used with hooked sticks and either a ball or puck. The team with the most goals wins the game. Drills include passing, shooting, tackling and defending.

Table Top Cricket

A game played on a table tennis table using a small cricket bat and ball.

Tennis

We play a version called Kings & Queens to practice returning a service over the net and inside the court. The winner of each game  becomes the reigning King or Queen and serves for the next game.
