Another great session at Epping Forest Sportability Club this Saturday where we played Hockey and other games out on the Oak View School playground. We started off with a warm up jogging and stretching around the playground. We then played some games of Rob the Nest. The group split up in to four small teams and each tried to get as many tennis balls in their hoop as possible. This was done by taking it in turns, one at a time, to go and "rob" a ball from another nest. The first game ended in a tie between Davina and Liam's teams but the second game was won outright by Liam's team made up of Kealan, Ellis and Liam. After a quick drinks break we switched to playing Hockey. We started with some practice dribbling the ball around the playground. We then laid out some cones for the kids to dribble around. Finally, some goals were added at the end of the playground for the kids to shoot out, once they had been around the cones. After the main break, we moved on to some games with the group splitting in to two teams - the blues versus the yellow. By half time the yellow team were leading by six goals to four. At the start of the second half the blue team managed to get back on level terms but in the end the yellow team managed to win the game by one goal. There was some great goalkeeping at either end by Valentina (yellow team) and Kerrie (Blues). The Star performer awards this week went to Ellis and Anand but there were some other notable great performances from many others including Liam, Todd and Valentina. Well done to all.
See you all again next Saturday for our penultimate session of the term. On what turned out to be a blazing hot morning at Oak View School we played Tennis and Boccia games. After a slow start we had a great turnout and a really good session. We started off balancing tennis balls on tennis rackets as we moved about the playground. We then practised hitting the ball up on our rackets then hitting down bouncing it on the ground. From there we worked in pairs throwing the ball to your partner to hit it back. We then played some games of Build a burger where the kids balance tennis balls between rackets as they move up and down the playground. With each turn another layer of the burger is added. By then end it could be 4 or 5 layers deep. Our last bit of tennis before the break was a game of King of the Court. This is where the ball is thrown over the net for the child to return. Get it back over and inside the court and you are through to the next round. Fail to get it back over or outside the court or get caught out and you join the coaches on the fielding side trying to catch the others out. It is last person standing and in this game it was Zakaa who was King of the Court, after beating Sonny in the final. We calmed things down after the break playing various different games of Boccia. The group split in to two teams, reds and blues. First off it was seeing how many balls you can get in to the hoops matching your team colour. Then it was a nearest the white ball (jack) game. It was a great session albeit somewhat hot and humid. At the end of the session the coaches awarded the star of the week award to Hal and Zakaa. Well done boys and it was great to see Zakaa back after a good few weeks.
See you all again next week for more fun and games. It was hot and humid this week at Oak View School and just as we were about to start there were a few drops of rain so we did the warm up in the school hall. By the time we finished that it had stopped raining so it was outside for some throwing and catching practice. After a quick drinks break it was on to some batting practice hitting the tennis balls off the tees trying to hit cones and then wickets at the far end of the playground. After the main break we played some Three Tee Cricket. The group split in to two teams and Justin's team were up first to bat. Coach Alan added an extra incentive in that if you hit one of the balls between pairs of cones at the far end of the playground you got 5 extra runs. Once everyone had batted Justin's team had amassed 62 runs. Davina's team then switched from fielding to batting and they managed and tremendous 73 runs and thus winning the match. We finished off the session by coming back in the hall from some lovely calm games of Boccia. At the end of the session the coaches awarded the Star of the Week awards to Sonny and Rhys for great efforts throughout the morning. Well done lads!
We look forward to seeing you all again next week It was great to be back at Sportability after the half term break. It was a blisteringly hot morning so we started out on the playground but soon had to come inside to get out of the scorching sun! The session started with the kids grabbing a basketball each and dribbling around the playground. Alan then led a traffic light game. The coaches then laid out some cones for the kids to dribble around. They then had to try and throw the ball so that it bounced in the hoop at the far end. We then came inside for some shooting practice. We formed two lines, one for each basket, so that when the kids had a shot at one basket they then joined the line for the other one. We then played some one on one games with Ollie throwing the ball in and the kids competing to see who could be first to score a basket. After the main break we split in to three teams and played some round robin small sided games. The green team won the first game easily against the yellow team by 3 baskets to one. The blue team then took on the green's and it was a 4-4 draw. In the final game it was blue vs yellow and the blue team won a close fought game by 3-2. We finished off with a couple of games of Boccia. The red team won the first game and the blue team won the final game. At the end of the session the coaches awarded the Star of the Week awards to Alexander and Swaran for their efforts throughout the session - well done lads! Join us again next week for more fun and games. We had a lovely session outside playing all things Rugby at EFSC this Saturday. Ray led his usual thorough warm up with all sorts of exercises getting our bodies ready for the sport to come. We then had the group split in to pairs to practice passing a rugby ball to each other. Alan then switched it up adding moving the ball around the waist and through the legs to the routine before finally adding a throw of the ball in the air and clapping before catching the ball once more. We then moved on to passing the ball on the run, in our pairs. After a quick drinks break we then formed a big circle and initially passed the ball around the circle. We then started to run across the circle and pass to someone on the other side. We then played a game of Rob the Nest where the idea is to have the most balls in your nest (hoop) at the end of each game. The group split in to 4 small teams and the first game was a three way tie but the second game was won by the team containing Todd and Kealan. After the main break we moved inside for some tag games of Hunter. In each round there were two pairs who had to run up the hall. In each pair, one was the Hunter with the other being hunted. The aim of the hunter being to tag their opponent before they got back with the ball. The aim of the opponent is to run up the hall, grab a ball and get back without being tagged. It is fast and furious and a lot of fun. After all that running around the kids were getting hot and tired so we wound things down and ended the session with some games of Boccia. The blue team won the first game easily but the reds got their revenge in the second game winning by 8 to 6. The final game was the decider and we were down to one hoop in the middle of the hall. The reds came out winners by the fine margin of 6 to 5. At the end of the session the coaches awarded the Star of the Week awards to Kealan and Davina for their great efforts and enthusiasm throughout the session. Well done both!
We hope you all have a fantastic half term break and look forward to seeing you all again when we are back on Saturday 10th June. See you then! It was nice to be out on the playground in the sunshine this week at Sportability Club. Ray led the warm up before it we got on to our main sport of Tennis. We started by trying to balance a tennis ball on our rackets. Then moving on to doing keepy uppy with the ball. After that it was hitting the ball between the racket and the ground. Lastly, we tried to bounce the ball on the ground and catch it on top of the racket. From there the group split in to pairs and they took it in turns to throw the ball to their partner for them to hit back. After a quick drinks break we moved on to playing some games of build a burger. This is where the kids go up and down the playground balancing a ball between rackets. With every turn one more player adds their ball and racket to the pile making it a very tricky balancing act and great for teamwork. Either side of the main break we played some games of King of the Court. Ollie would throw a tennis ball over the net and each player in turn had to try and return it over the net and in court without being caught out. Fail to get it over, get caught or not get it in to the court and you are out and join Ollie in trying to catch out other players. It is last person standing and in the first game we actually had two winners - Todd and Ellis. In the second game it was Kealan who emerged victorious. We finished off with some games of Tennis Rounders with each child getting a chance to bat and bowl. It was a great session and we were blessed with some really good weather. At the end of the session the Star of the Week awards were presented to Todd and Valentina from great effort throughout the session. Well done both!
It was also Anand's birthday this week and he kindly brought in the lovely cake below. Next week is our last before the half term break so we look forwards to seeing you all then. We had a great session this week where the main sports were Cricket and Archery. Last week there were no photos as the official photographer was on Coronation duty but we understand that the session was great and included Golf, Putting, Benchball and Boccia with Ellis and Sonny winning the Star of the Week awards. This week Ray led the warm up before we started practising Cricket skills with some throwing and catching. That was followed by some games of Champion. The group was split in to two with Ollie leading one game and Ray the other. The object being to be at the head of the line at the end of the game. The leaders would throw a tennis ball to one of the kids at random. If they caught the ball they moved up the line but drop it and you move down. At the end of the game the winners were Zakaa, in Ray's group, and Davina in Ollie's group. After a quick drinks break it was on to some fielding practice with the kids collecting a tennis ball from a cone and running around the stumps before replacing the ball. This then progressed to throwing at the stumps and taking a turn to be wicketkeeper to collect the ball. After the main break we moved on to some batting practice. The kids were hitting tennis balls off a cone towards the end of the hall. They were then trying to aim to hit cones to gain points. We finished off with some Archery with the group splitting in to two teams and each taking a turn or two with three arrows each time. Davina was among those to score a bullseye! At the end of a great session the coaches awarded the Star of the Week awards to Kerrie and Rhys for their efforts throughout the morning. Well done to both! Have a great week all and we look forwards to seeing you all back next Saturday. We also had a surprise during the session with a visit from Toby Chow's parents. Although Toby no longer comes to the club his mum Heidi was awarded Loughton Citizen of the Year and along with that came a donation from Loughton Town Council to a charity of her choosing and she kindly thought of us. We were very touched that they thought of us and are very grateful for the award
For our first sunny Saturday for a long time it was great to be outside on the playground for our session. Football was the main sport we played, and after a warm up led by Ray, it was straight in to some skills practice. We started with some ball dribbling then Jorys led a traffic light game - dribble with the ball on green, move the ball side to side on yellow and stop on red. Alan then laid out some cones for the kids to dribble around including doing a figure of eight. After a quick drinks break it was on to some shooting practice with the kids moving up the playground, around the cones, before stopping and shooting. After the main break the kids put all the practice to good use in some small sided games. Unfortunately, I had to leave early so no photos from the matches but Alan did send through a photo of our star performers for the week - Liam and Pranav. Well done lads!
Next week club will be on despite the Coronation of King Charles so if you have said that you are going to attend please ensure that you do so that there are enough kids to make the session worthwile. Many Thanks We had a good turnout for our first session back after the Easter break and it was great to see everyone. Hockey was the main sport we played. After a warm up, led by Ray, we practised some Hockey skills. These included dribbling with the ball, a traffic light game, moving the ball through the cones, then moving the ball in a figure of 8 around the cones. They then paired up passing the ball between the pair as they made their way around the cones. The final practice was shooting with the kids dribbling the ball half way down the hall before shooting towards a goal made up of cones in front of a bench. After shooting they would collect their ball, dribble back and pass on to the next person so that they could take their turn. After the main break we put all that good practice to use in some small sided games. The first match up was between the green and yellow teams with the green team winning a close battle 6 to 5. Next up the blue team played the yellow's and the blue team ran out winners. It was then the battle of the two winning teams - the green's and the blue's to see who would be champions. The game went one way and the other but it was the green team that won out by a score line of 4 to 3. We finished off with some games of Boccia with the group splitting in to two teams. We started off with 9 hoops to aim for and with each game the number of hoops reduced. The reds won the first game. The blue team won the second game, with 5 hoops to aim for. The final game with just three hoops was won by the blue team 4-2. It is Todd's birthday next week so we all sang him Happy Birthday. Alan then presented our Star performers their certificates and the were Charlotte and Hal - well done both! Numbers were a bit down this week but we had fun none the less as we enjoyed a fantastic last session before the Easter Break. Ray was absent as well so Alan led the warm up before we got going with some catching practice in pairs. First off we did some bounce passes then we did some throwing and catching without bouncing the ball. We then moved on to a game of Champion. The group split in to two groups with Ollie leading one game and Alan the other. They throw to each child in turn. If they catch the ball successfully they move up the line. If they drop it then they move to the bottom of the queue. At the end of the game Valentina was Champion in Ollie's group and Charlotte the champion in Alan's group, but there were several kids leading the way at various points during the game. Before the main break we then did some fielding practice - picking the ball up from a cone and throwing at the stumps. After the main break we practice batting - hitting the ball off a cone towards the end of the hall as straight as possible. We then went on to play some three tee cricket games. Each player had to hit three balls off of three tees then try and get as many runs as possible before the fielding team put the tees and tennis balls back in to position. Alexander's team won the first game by 47 runs to 42. The second game was a lot closer with Alexander's team scoring 80 runs. The final player for Valentina's team was Alan. He needed 7 runs to win, 6 to draw but only managed 5!!! At the end of a great session Alan gave each of the kids an Easter Egg for all their efforts over the term. We wish you all a great Easter break and look forward to seeing you back on the 22nd April
