Although the weather was a bit wet and miserable first thing on Saturday it had brightened up enough by the time the session started for us to get outside on the playground. The session centered mainly around football but at the end of the session we had enough time for a quick game of cricket. The morning started with a warm up including a tag game which was led by Ray. The group then moved on to the main sport for the day which was football starting with some practice drills. Basic movement with the ball with Ray calling toe tap and side to side touches with the ball We then moved on to dribbling and shooting. Each player moved through a set of cones then on to a shooting area. When they reached the shooting area Ray called out Red or Blue. The goal was split in half (red and blue) and the player would shoot to the side that had been called. The shooting proved very popular and James Penfold showed some good awareness and eye for goal. Another member who worked extremely hard was Charlotte Bisell who as the session went on grew in confidence and made some great shots at the goal. At the end of the session the coaches conferred and awarded the star of the week award to Charlotte, pictured here with Zakaa, Anand and Coach Ciara. A very well done Charlotte! Last Saturday's session was mainly devoted to the sport of Badminton and all those that attended participated well and a number showed a high level of skill with some long rallies. As always we started off with a warm up - stretching and jogging - leading in to a game of Tag. Once we warmed up it was out with the rackets and shuttle cocks and the start of the skills practice. Alan, Ray, Ciara and Ollie worked with all the kids to ensure they were holding the rackets properly and knew how to serve and return to each other. As you can see from the pictures they tried some keepy-uppy to practice their control before pairing up to practice serving to each other and building up rallies. After a well earned break we took things down a notch or two with a variety of Boccia games. First the kids had to aim their bowls for the blue or red hoops. Next it was on to the big target with closest the bullseye the winner. The final game was the original form of having a white jack ball and the aim for the members was to get their ball as close to it as they can.
Back to School and back to EFSC! It was great to be back on Saturday hearing about our different members summers and seeing them all again. The session was dedicated to Basketball and was led by Ray, Ciara and Ollie. The photos taken by Zoe tell the story of the session and you will see that it went from skills session to 1 on 1 games through to full blown team games The kids were so involved in the session that they did not stop for a refreshment break for quite a long time. That just about gave them enough time to play the one on one games before the main snack break which was later than normal at midday. After refuelling with snacks we finished up with some team games. The group split in to three teams and they played each other in a round robin fashion so each team played the other two. At the end of the session the coaches had to decide who to award the star of the week award to. This week they decided to award the first certificate of the term to Zakaa for his participation and fantastic work in the basketball. Well done Zakaa. Join us again next Saturday for more fun and games! As always please spread the word about the club - we are always on the look out for new members and the next generation of superstars! Also, a date for the diary is October 14th when all the adults are invited to our Annual General meeting to elect the new committee and discuss plans for the coming year. It will be held as usual during the session while the kids are having fun. |
