NBA Finals Inspires some Basketball Fun at EFSC

25/4/2016

We welcomed another new member this week which was great to see - welcome Rayan! We also had a really good turn out which made for a busy session too.
Our session this week centered mainly around the sport of Basketball. As always we started with a warm up and then went in to some skills practice. There were several drills that helped improve the members' ball handling skills and shooting skills, some of which you can see in the photos below.
After all that skills practice the children had a short break for refreshments before getting stuck in to some team games. The session then ended with a few short games of football - making the most of a break in the rain and gloom to enjoy a moment of better weather out on the playground. As always, at the very end of the session the coaches got together to decide on who was star of the week and  this week they chose one of our newer members. This just shows how quickly some of our newer members take to settle in and have some fun

Summer Term underway and great to see a couple of new faces.

It was great to be back after the Easter break and really good to see a couple of new faces. Callum came in for a taster session just before Easter and this was his first proper session and we also met Spencer who came along for the first time. A big welcome to them both and good to see them enjoying themselves.
We started the session as always with a warm up and that was followed by some Hockey. The coaches went through some skills training with the kids such as controlling the ball with the stick; doing slaloms around cones and keeping / controlling the ball on the white lines. They also played a traffic lights game as well before launching in to some games of Hockey.

After a short break we moved from Hockey to Three Tee Cricket. Everyone took it in turns to have bat. The aim is firstly to hit the three balls off the tees and try and hit the back wall beyond all the other children who are fielding. Once all the balls have been hit the second stage is for the batter to run between two wickets and get as many runs as they can while the fielders return the balls and tees to their original positions. The batter tries to get as many runs as possible while the fielders are trying to stop them.

To finish off the session we played a game of Benchball - always a great favourite and a good team game. it involves a lot of running around, throwing and catching but most importantly is team work and communication as each team aim to get all their players on to the bench. At the end of the session the coaches had to choose the Star of the Week and this week they chose Callum, one of our new members, as he took part in all the sports really well getting stuck in and showing great effort. Well done to Callum and all the kids for taking part so well. See you all again next week!
