On what turned out to be a blazing hot morning at Oak View School we played Tennis and Boccia games. After a slow start we had a great turnout and a really good session. We started off balancing tennis balls on tennis rackets as we moved about the playground. We then practised hitting the ball up on our rackets then hitting down bouncing it on the ground. From there we worked in pairs throwing the ball to your partner to hit it back. We then played some games of Build a burger where the kids balance tennis balls between rackets as they move up and down the playground. With each turn another layer of the burger is added. By then end it could be 4 or 5 layers deep. Our last bit of tennis before the break was a game of King of the Court. This is where the ball is thrown over the net for the child to return. Get it back over and inside the court and you are through to the next round. Fail to get it back over or outside the court or get caught out and you join the coaches on the fielding side trying to catch the others out. It is last person standing and in this game it was Zakaa who was King of the Court, after beating Sonny in the final. We calmed things down after the break playing various different games of Boccia. The group split in to two teams, reds and blues. First off it was seeing how many balls you can get in to the hoops matching your team colour. Then it was a nearest the white ball (jack) game. It was a great session albeit somewhat hot and humid. At the end of the session the coaches awarded the star of the week award to Hal and Zakaa. Well done boys and it was great to see Zakaa back after a good few weeks.
See you all again next week for more fun and games. It was hot and humid this week at Oak View School and just as we were about to start there were a few drops of rain so we did the warm up in the school hall. By the time we finished that it had stopped raining so it was outside for some throwing and catching practice. After a quick drinks break it was on to some batting practice hitting the tennis balls off the tees trying to hit cones and then wickets at the far end of the playground. After the main break we played some Three Tee Cricket. The group split in to two teams and Justin's team were up first to bat. Coach Alan added an extra incentive in that if you hit one of the balls between pairs of cones at the far end of the playground you got 5 extra runs. Once everyone had batted Justin's team had amassed 62 runs. Davina's team then switched from fielding to batting and they managed and tremendous 73 runs and thus winning the match. We finished off the session by coming back in the hall from some lovely calm games of Boccia. At the end of the session the coaches awarded the Star of the Week awards to Sonny and Rhys for great efforts throughout the morning. Well done lads!
We look forward to seeing you all again next week It was great to be back at Sportability after the half term break. It was a blisteringly hot morning so we started out on the playground but soon had to come inside to get out of the scorching sun! The session started with the kids grabbing a basketball each and dribbling around the playground. Alan then led a traffic light game. The coaches then laid out some cones for the kids to dribble around. They then had to try and throw the ball so that it bounced in the hoop at the far end. We then came inside for some shooting practice. We formed two lines, one for each basket, so that when the kids had a shot at one basket they then joined the line for the other one. We then played some one on one games with Ollie throwing the ball in and the kids competing to see who could be first to score a basket. After the main break we split in to three teams and played some round robin small sided games. The green team won the first game easily against the yellow team by 3 baskets to one. The blue team then took on the green's and it was a 4-4 draw. In the final game it was blue vs yellow and the blue team won a close fought game by 3-2. We finished off with a couple of games of Boccia. The red team won the first game and the blue team won the final game. At the end of the session the coaches awarded the Star of the Week awards to Alexander and Swaran for their efforts throughout the session - well done lads! Join us again next week for more fun and games. |
