Firstly, apologies for the lack of a post last week but I understand they had a great session playing Football and Curling. After a warm-up led by Ray, our main sport this week was Basketball and we started off by doing some skills practice. This involved a game of Traffic Lights where the kids dribbled the ball on a green signal, bounced on the spot on yellow or stopped altogether on red. Alan changed the action for yellow mid-game so that the kids moved the ball around their waists instead. After the traffic light game Alan and Ray laid out some cones for the kids to dribble the ball around. After a quick drinks break, we moved on to some Shooting practice taking it in turns to shoot at the basket at either end of the hall. From there we then moved on to some One on One games where the coaches would pair up players of equal age and ability. They would run from the basket end of the hall around a cone at the far end of the hall where Ray was waiting to throw the ball in to play. It was then a case of who scored first so players switching between attack and defence depending on who had the ball. During our main break we noticed that the weather had warmed up quite a bit, so we moved outside in the sunshine for a game of Handball. The group split in to two teams - blues and yellows and there was some fantastic teamwork and passing on display. The person with the ball should not move so it forced them in to passing then running up the pitch to try and get the ball back. It was a great match and the blue team ran out eventual winners At the end of the session Alan advised that we have marked our 17 year anniversary as a club and he has been head coach all that time (and some of our older members have been coming along for all that time too!)
A reminder to all parents and carers that next Saturday is our annual general meeting (AGM) so please do try and attend as this is your chance to have a say in how the club is run. We will start the meeting once the kids have started their activities so around 10:15 to 10:30. We hope it will not take too long as well! There were a number of outstanding performances this week, but the Star of the Week awards this week went to Valentina and Ellis. Congratulations to you both! Comments are closed.
